Who is This Guy, Anyway?

Married since the late 90’s, I’m a third-generation carpenter that’s been working in commercial construction in the Pacific Northwest since high-school, almost 20 years ago.  Relocating in 2011 from a busy road in the Portland area to a rural area not too far from Seattle, my wife and I have grown to love our new hometown and the rural lifestyle.

I am the type of person that has a lot of interests and hobbies, but the two I’m most passionate about are cooking and gardening.  For me, the two are interconnected in that I love to cook what I grow and love to grow things that I want to try cooking.  They also go hand-in-hand together in my desire to become more self-sufficient with the food we eat.

My viewpoint on food has changed recently and I’m now disturbed by industrially-raised meat and processed foods as a whole.  My purpose for this blog is to share my attempts at making replacements for the processed foods we’re accustomed to eating as we strive to eliminate them from our diet as well as share recipes for other foods we enjoy, including some gluten-free recipes since my wife is unable to eat gluten due to Celiac Disease.  Occasionally, I may even post something relating to one of my other hobbies.
